EDINBURGH MASTERCLASSES
The Assembly Rooms Saturday 10th November
12:45 – 13:25
The Sherries of Gonzalez-Byass with Anthony Rose
In September, Anthony travelled to Jerez to join Gonzáles-Byass’ legendary cellarmaster, Antonio Flores, in blending four bottlings of their ‘Palmas fino’ Sherry. Anthony will be proudly showing these, plus a selection of the extraordinarily old and fine – and Christmas-friendly – sherries such as the fabled Matúsalem, Apostoles and Noé. Tickets £15
14:00 – 14:40
The wines of South West France with Jane Parkinson
Jane is a huge fan of the mind-boggling array of mouth-watering wines that come out of South West France, a region perhaps best known for Cahors and Madiran. In this masterclass, she will explore this extraordinary pool of indigenous grapes and switched-on young winemakers, covering everywhere from Irouléguy in the Basque country to Gaillac in the east, tasting white, red and of course, sweet wines. Tickets £15
15:15 – 15:55
The wines of Portugal with Tom Cannavan
Crowned ‘Portuguese Wine Writer of the Year’ in 2010/11, Tom lets his successor, Julia Harding MW, take the strain here: Julia chose her ’50 Great Portuguese Wines’ earlier this year, and from those, Tom has made this further selection of eight of his absolute favourites to taste here, quite simply representing the finest wines from one of Europe’s most dynamic wine countries. Tickets £15
16:30 – 17:20
The wines of Lebanon with Tom Cannavan
Following his visit to the country earlier this year, Tom will share his knowledge and passion for the wines of Lebanon – not just Chateau Musar (though he’ll be including it for sure) but wines from ten of the country’s best producers. This is a unique opportunity to gain a real insight into this country and its wines, made under the most challenging conditions. Tickets £20
BATH MASTERCLASSES
The Guildhall Saturday 24th November
12:45 – 13:25
The Sherries of Gonzalez-Byass with Jane Parkinson
In this masterclass Sherry über fan Jane Parkinson will demonstrate why Sherry has become so fashionable once again and why it’s so versatile with food. Ranging from dry and refreshing to unctuous and rich, this masterclass will work through a range of 8 gorgeous Sherries from historic Sherry bodega Gonzalez-Byass. Come and join the Sherry revolution! Tickets £15
14:00 – 14:40
The wines of South West France with Anthony Rose
As he wrote in his Independent column recently, the wines of Cahors and Madiran may be well known, but what about the more obscure crannies of South-West France. In his masterclass, Anthony will delve into five of the most intriguing South West denominations, tasting white, red, rosé and of course, sweet wines. Tickets £15
15:15 – 15:55
The wines of Navarra with Pilar García-Granero
Spain’s wine revolution has seen the renaissance of traditional regions across the country. Lying between Rioja and the French border in the foothills of the Pyrenees, Navarra makes predominantly red wines from Garnacha (Grenache) and Tempranillo. Here the President of the Navarra Consejo, ably assisted by our own David Williams, offers an in-depth introduction to this fascinating region. Tickets £15
