about the wine gang

The Wine Gang is five of the UK's most respected wine critics. From left to right: Olly Smith of BBC1's Saturday Kitchen, Tom Cannavan of wine-pages.com, Anthony Rose of the Independent, Joanna Simon of House & Garden and Tim Atkin MW of the Observer.

Our idea is simple: every week we attend a host of tastings restricted to the press and wine trade. But we're frustrated. Why? Because with the limited coverage wine receives in the media, so much valuable information never reaches the consumer. Now, our independent assessment of at least 200 wines per month empowers you to buy smarter and drink better.

what makes the wine gang different?

The short answer is: just about everything. The Wine Gang is 100% independent. We do not accept wine advertising, so there is no potential for a conflict of interest.

We are a team, but we are not a bland committee. Each wine is reviewed by an individual member of the Gang, but we calibrate our palates regularly and cross-check our findings.

We do not taste wines 'blind'. That means we know how much the wines we are tasting cost, what standard to expect, and what their true value is. We can judge their quality and value for money.

Our coverage of at least 200 wines per month gives you a comprehensive feel for each retailer's list. We give you our best buys of course, but we are not afraid to tell you about the wines that don't cut the mustard. We offer unrivalled access to the facts on every major retailer's range.

Members of The Wine Gang have unparalleled access to the combined expertise of five of the world's most widely-read and respected wine experts - for a very low annual fee.
